Thank-you

You could never see beyond your own pain
I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I must thank-you for all that you have taught me
Because of the pain I have endured
I learned how to be afraid
I lost my way each and everyday
I just wanted to be seen in your eyes for once
Why couldn't you just open your eyes to see?
I find it hard to trust everyone around me
All of this because of you
I must thank-you for now I can stand on my own two feet
Today I stand without your help
I am a pillar of strength now
I have built a wall around my heart for protection
I will never feel like this again because of you
I must thank-you for the loneliness I endured
I am stronger than than you could ever be
I have walked along behind you in your footsteps
From your infinite wisdom I have learned to build brick by brick
A pillar inside me for protection against the harsh reality
Nobody can ever hurt me as much as you have
Because of this I can endure limitless adversity
So I say thank-you
Through your demonstration unwittingly you have taught me without ever trying
I have learned the ways of the world
I have looked beyond the glass to see the world's true form inside
What can become of you if you let the world in more than one piece at a time
By your inculcation I have learned what others do not embrace as I do
I am thankful for your guidance
You have taught me well.
